Village sees the light over energy use

An innovative energy efficiency scheme in a small Leicestershire village has had a dramatic effect on locals' carbon footprint.
Residents in North Kilworth joined forces to set up a community interest company called Village Power to try to make the village more sustainable.
As part of the scheme, backed by the Local Energy Assessment Fund, 60 properties were fitted with Energeno's Wattson energy monitors, which work by making each household more aware of their energy consumption.
When consumption is high, the device displays red lights. When it is low, the lights are blue. One of the reasons the community opted for the Wattson monitors was their visual impact.
After just two months, residents saw a dramatic reduction in their energy use and their attitudes towards consumption were changed for the better.
Mark Elliot, director of operations at Energeno, said: "We're delighted to be supporting this fantastic initiative and that the idea of energy monitoring has been so well-received."
